David is an award-winning non-fiction filmmaker and video artist based in Los Angeles. Founder of media collective Artifact, his work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art, and he has won numerous awards at film festivals and events. He has been supported by the Sundance Institute, the California Council for the Humanities, the Hartley Foundation, the Humane Society, and the Center for Asian American Media, among others. With dozens of films to his credit, David has extensive experience creating content that engages communities and generates dialogue. As a commercial director, he has worked with agencies and clients including TBWA, Anomaly, Deutsch, Bethesda Softworks, GE, Microsoft, and The Walt Disney Company, making work that celebrates the diversity of the human spirit.
David's most recent documentary films OPERATION POPCORN and SENTENCED HOME were shown on PBS and explored the experience of Southeast Asian refugee communities in the U.S. Delving into the roots of fundamentalism, the HBO film KORAN BY HEART portrayed young Muslims who had memorized the entire Koran and were competing at a religious contest in Dubai. David also created CRITICAL PATH, an interactive project documenting the videogame medium, which was featured at the Sonoma Museum of Art.
