Services

Artifact creates purpose-driven documentary and real-people content for advertising agencies and brands. Our filmmakers have made dozens of award-winning documentaries, shown on HBO, PBS, ESPN, Netflix, Amazon, and in theaters. At Artifact, we apply our documentary expertise and creative resources to the entire process of long- and short-form content creation.

Concept Development + Communication Strategy
Working from a simple brief or an existing concept, a filmmaker and one or more people from Artifact’s communications team will research and identify a story and put together a treatment that outlines the structure, tone and style of the video content. Artifact also makes recommendations for how that content can reach your community.
Casting + Research
Nonfiction video content succeeds or fails based on casting. There are also practical issues that arise in engaging non-actors to participate in a brand video. Artifact’s filmmakers and production team conduct a deep and exhaustive search for the right people to feature. Based on conversations with potential cast members and other friends they make along the way, they gain a working knowledge of a community or individual and develop storylines.
Production
Artifact’s documentary filmmakers and production staff are experts at the art and science of capturing authentic moments and producing footage that lends itself to clear, compelling storytelling. They’ve filmed all over the world, from the Arctic to a grocery store in Malibu. They’ve interviewed Nobel prize winners, politicians and artists, and even swum with chimps! Depending on the production, clients and agency partners participate in every day of filming, or send the filmmakers out into the field and review edits from their offices.
Editorial + Post Production
Artifact’s editors, graphic artists, and musicians work with our writers and directors to take hours of raw footage and craft content into coherent, compelling stories. Our post-department finishes and delivers it for any distribution platform and length, from gifs to hour-long specials, and everything in between.
DIGITAL
The nonfiction experience typically begins before the audience clicks on the play button, and often there are redundancies or even conflicting messaging between video content and the digital space where the videos live. At Artifact, filmmakers and digital designers work together. Be it a standalone microsite or an experience integrated into your current website, Artifact can can provide seamless interactive digital creative, from design, copy, IA, UX, frontend and backend development.
